Composition and Materials:
All acrylic fixtures used with our cable/rod or rail display systems are made from high-quality acrylic from best known brands like Acrylite®, Plexiglass®, Lucite®, etc. Acrylic is a lightweight, rigid thermoplastic material that has many times the breaking resistance of standard window-pane glass and it is available in various thicknesses. It is suitable for a variety of commercial applications and can be easily sawed, machined, laser cut, thermoformed and cemented.
Colors / Finishes:
Acrylic sheets are readily available in a variety of color and finishes – clear acrylic is used primarily for its superior optical clarity and rigidity; non-glare (non-reflective) acrylic is used as frame or display front cover and helps to reduce the glare from spot lights or sunny windows; UV filtering acrylic is used for protection from the irreversible effects of UV damage from both natural and artificial light; frosted acrylic is used in special background and decorative screen designs; and color acrylic is used in custom sign and display designs.
Product Limitations:
Acrylic sheet is not as rigid as glass or metals. Large, flat acrylic sheets, if insufficiently supported, may deform permanently due to continuous loads or even their own weight. Acrylic sheet can be used at temperatures from -30°F (-34°C) up to +190°F (+88°C), depending on the application. It is recommended that temperatures not exceed 160°F (71°C) for continuous service, or 190°F (88°C) for short, intermittent use. Components should not be exposed to high heat sources such as high wattage incandescent lamps, unless the finished product is ventilated to permit the dissipation of heat. Acrylic sheet is a combustible thermoplastic. Precautions should be taken to protect this material from flames and high heat sources. Despite its high durability some simple steps should be employed when handling and cleaning acrylic to avoid staining, cracking and damage. Never use cleaners containing ammonia, glass cleaners or furniture polish, they will all harm your acrylic fixtures. Use only mild soap and water or products specifically recommended for cleaning acrylic such as Craftics, Novus, or other Rated Anti-Static Cleaner & Polish for Plastics. Use micro-fiber disposable low lint cloths that is specially designed for cleaning acrylic and other plastic. Never use a dry cloth or your hand to clean your acrylic.
